About the Project

I’m a student at the American Cooperative School of Tunis taking Media Arts as one of my electives.  My final exam:  To tackle something that I’m passionate about with computers and what we’ve learned over the years.  Some of the kids are making videos about soccer, or making ads about animal treatment.  But I think that the school could really benefit from an Ubuntu desktop in our library.

Let me explain the situation with out library computers:  They run Windows XP and mostly IE7.  They’re incredibly sluggish, especially IE.  IE takes forever to do things and freezes randomly, often making it extremely difficult to do work.  With an Ubuntu computer with Firefox built in, productivity can be much enhanced.  For example, in Windows when a program is malfunctioning you generally can’t work around it by minimizing things or such, and it slows down other applications (and force quit takes forever).  In Ubuntu, you can minimize or force quit immediately if an application isn’t working and there is no noticeable decrease in speed for other applications.

That’s why I’m doing this.
